ARTIST STATEMENT

The Great Silence is an ongoing series of works of fiction in paint. Collected images and subjects, from real life and from a more imaginative exploration of situations. Landscapes from the margins of our day to day, the underimagined spaces we glimpse from a train window, or while waiting at traffic lights, become the places where these stories play out. What has happened and what will happen merge together, often depicting the same characters, but at different moments. The figures that appear are half there, half just passing. They stem from places I know, from films, from imagination, and from a need to paint them. The paintings can be viewed as an event which may happen, is happening as we see it, or has already passed by.
